Improve

There are a few things I would suggest that would improve Metropolitan Talent. The first thing that stands out is the way co workers communicate with each other in the office. Google Talk or AIM is used to talk to each other. I think face to face communication is much better in every aspect. There are many things being sent back and forth to each other through e mail such as press releases and ads for the concerts to be revised but people can walk a few feet to talk to each other instead of sitting at their desk all day. We are a promoting company that does not even communicate well with each other. I think they could utilize the social networking sites better. A blog is not going to attract enough traffic to their website.
I would incorporate more guerrilla marketing. I would have our name on more bus benches, subway posters, improve the flyering, radio, and TV ads.

  1. Communication is key in any company, but especially in a promotional company! E-mail is a good way to keep all the important information on your computer, organized, and easily locatable as a reference (not to mention is saves some trees to not have to print out a million copies of documents or proposals that will probably be corrected and must be re-printed). If people are that close in the office they should get up and explain the e-mail or message they have just sent out to those that are involved the most or need more explanation of details than others. There is so much we can get out of a person’s body language that is ignored or not relayed through e-mail and instant messaging. Tone of voice is also important and signifies to the listener when specific points are more or less important than others. As a future designer I have to be able to communicate with clients via technology and in person. There needs to be a good mixture of the two and when you walk away from a meeting there needs to be an overall sense of clarity and trust that the project is moving in the right direction. More marketing for your promotional company would be a good way to increase the number of clients too. Good suggestions.

  2. Hi Jesse! Isn’t it amazing how face to face communication is becoming less popular, while chatting online is skyrocketing!? I agree with you on this idea to improve your company. The company needs to see just how important communication face to face is. In my history of social thought class I watched a video about the world becoming obsessed with texting, social networks and online gaming. It talked about how people are loosing their true selves online. Because of online communication many people are too scared to communicate face to face and have lost their social skills. I think this is a good point to bring up to your company. A meeting could be held to talk about the negative impact online communicating can have for individuals and companies.

  3. There is a lot more face to face communication here in South Africa. I think it has to do a lot with the culture and because South Africa lags behind in technology relative to the United States. No one in my office uses AIM or any means of electronic communication in house, except for emailing documents or vital information. They are happy to get up and go chat with them for a few minutes, and the conversations always end up in with them socializing and talking about other stuff other than work.
