Week 4
As a career, I could definitely see myself working for Interscope Records in the future. However, I do not see myself working for the marketing firm, Metropolitan Talent, which I am currently doing my applied study at. My future career goals include socializing and starting at a position that utilizes my strong educational background, relative work experience, demonstrated leadership, and team building skills within a growth oriented, progressive company. I started about 3 weeks earlier then most people in our class so I am becoming much more involved and aware. I do not see a position that I want to work towards. I feel it is a lot more motivating when I know hard work will pay off. I am also starting to realize that New York City is not a place that I want to live in. It is extremely hectic and everything is more expensive. I am currently commuting for this experience from my home in New Jersey and it is a pain in the @#$! Another thing that I dislike is my constant work sitting in front of a computer screen. I will sit there for over 5 hours straight researching topics and doing various tasks. To be completely honest, I think the main thing I am learning through this experience is patience. I am learning a lot about independence, strengthening my communication skills, and listening to instructions within a team. When I do not have work to do, I will go into one of the boss’s offices and try to start conversations with them and ask if there is anything I can do to help their lives easier. In the future, I would consider working in an educational setting because learning is endless. Just a side comment… I drove my little brother who is studying pre-med at Penn State to an informational session for a Medical School called St. George’s University in Grenada. It was intriguing to see such driven people and hear from Graduate Students. An educational setting definitely seems interesting to me.

I can definately relate to how you're feeling at work. I've been sitting at a computer screen and looking at product codes over and over, and just started to actually do some more stimulating tasks this week, and have been tremendously busy. I get to work at 7:30 am and only leave at around 7:00 pm. I get home eat dinner, and watch the World Cup game at 8:30. From my previous jobs and internships I always felt that I was taken advantage of for my labor, and was given all of the tedious tasks, and was seldom ever acknoledged. I hope they start giving you better jobs or projects to work on.
ReplyDeleteHi Jesse I'm Kristen, and my best friend would absolutely love your job. That is exactly what she's talked about the last few years, and I find it to sound exciting. The sitting in front of a computer part I'm sure can get real old, but overall it doesn't sound that bad. I think it's cool you're living in New Jersey doing the whole east coast thing. I vacationed once in New York and it was defnitely to fast pace and crowded for me to live but still a great place to visit. If you don't stay with markteting, what field of education would you want to go into? I have worked with the high school for 2 years and love working in a special education classroom. I am interning with an agency called L.I.F.E. where I am a habilitation provider to a 6 year old boy with disabilities. I work from his home and I find it to be rewarding when I work with him. He has finbally started to warm up to me and seems to be making some progress in his behaviors. I work on his socail, behavioral, and academic goals that are listed in his Individualized Education Plan (IEP). Whether you change your career path from markteting to education or anything else, I'm sure you will do great in whatever you chose to do, and I wish you the nest of luck!
